  • "Dimitri kept everyone engaged"

    ★★★★★

The online tour was very interesting. Dimitri extremely knowledgeable. It was good with a small group, both Caroline and Dimitri kept everyone engaged and gave the opportunity to ask questions. I would love to come for a tour once covid restrictions ease up!

Dimitri and Caroline are great hosts and made it fun, relaxed and informative. Such a great "zoom" activity to do with friends and family during lockdown.

  • "Entertaining and thought-provoking"

    ★★★★★

Really loved being taken into a world which might appear confronting and intimidating, especially when the educator is an Astrophysicist. However the workshop made excellent use of relatable language, interesting facts, interactive themes and overall it was very interesting, entertaining and thought-provoking. Thank you for helping me step outside my world and appreciate another one :)

About your Host

At age 8, Dr Dimitri Douchin declared “I want to be an astrophysicist”. He studied Physics and Fundamental Physics in Paris then left his French hometown to start his PhD in Astronomy & Astrophysics which he received in 2014 in Sydney, Australia.

He boasts 10 years of guide experience at prestigious astro-tourism organisations, University of Canterbury Mount John Observatory in Lake Tekapo, New Zealand; Macquarie University; Sydney Observatory; at the ultra-luxury Emirates One & Only Wolgan Valley, Blue Mountains.

Dimitri is currently Adjunct Fellow at Western Sydney University researching how various people around the world study the sky—a new and trendy science known at Cultural Astronomy. He is investigating the potential significance of the Sky for the local Indigenous communities in the Blue Mountains area in collaboration with the communities, as well as exploring the potential of satellite imagery for local archaeoastronomy.

With his fiancée Caroline, he is running stargazing tours under the UNESCO World Heritage Blue Mountains’s dark skies, 1h30 from Sydney in Australia, with dramatic escarpment and valley views as a backdrop. The couple also runs bespoke events such as Wine Tasting Stargazing and Dinners Under The Stars.
